Kandi Burruss, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Ne-Yo and will.i.am are among the notable names nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s 2027 class. The announcement also recognizes music figures including Lady Gaga, P!nk, Shakira, Sia, Vince Gill, Jack White and members of Blondie, America, WAR and ZZ Top.

The nominees are divided into two categories: Songwriters and Performing Songwriters, as announced on the official website of Songwriters Hall of Fame. Together, they represent a wide range of musical styles, from hip-hop and R&B to pop, rock and country. Several nominees have helped define some of the most recognizable records in modern music.

Burruss, whose songwriting credits include TLC’s “No Scrubs” and Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills,” joins the class of nominees alongside Grandmaster Melle Mel, whose pioneering hip-hop work includes “The Message,” “Freedom” and “White Lines (Don’t Do It).” Ne-Yo is recognized for writing and performing hits such as “So Sick,” “Irreplaceable,” “Let Me Love You” and “Take a Bow.” Meanwhile, will.i.am’s catalog includes “Where Is the Love?,” “I Gotta Feeling” and “Scream & Shout.”

The Songwriters Hall of Fame nominations also highlight the work of songwriting and production teams. Stargate, the Norwegian production duo of Mikkel Eriksen and Tor Hermansen, is credited with hits including Rihanna’s “Diamonds,” Beyoncé’s “Irreplaceable” and Katy Perry’s “Firework.” The legendary Stock Aitken Waterman team is also nominated. Other nominees include Boy George, Debbie Harry and Chris Stein of Blondie, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell of America, and the members of WAR.

Following the announcement, Burruss shared an emotional response to the recognition. In a video posted by The Jasmine Brand on Instagram, she described the nomination as the “most amazing news” she had received in a long time. Reflecting on a difficult period, she said, “It’s been so much crazy stuff that’s been said about me over this past year, and sometimes it’s real heavy, but I keep moving.” She added: “What God got for you, it’s still go happen. It’s still meant for you.”

According to Variety, songwriters become eligible for induction 20 years after the commercial release of their first song. Eligible voting members have until midnight EST on December 14, 2026, to submit their ballots. They may select up to three nominees in each category. The 2027 Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in New York City.
